„Long Live the accomplished individuality!“

PAR Wine Award Greece 2015: Greek wine growers convince with high quality and enormous variety.

Bad Dürkheim, March 2015 – Greece, the „cradle of the European winegrowing“ thrilled the experienced PAR-jury under the guidance of Martin Darting by the consistently high quality awareness and amasing variety of the products. Round about 70 wines from 18 different regions of Greece have been submitted for the tasting which has been carried out by WINE System AG for the fifth time. The so called „accomplished individuality“ of many producers has especially impressed the tasters. The overall winner Sauvignon Blanc 2013 – Domaine Florian from Thessaloniki – attracted special attention due to its extraordinary expressive power. It achieved 97 PAR points. Sweet wine Vinsanto 2005 – the specialty from the Domaine Sigalas on the Santorini isle – became Top Gold with 96 PAR points.

The extraordinary variety of Greek wine stems not only from the extremely different wine-growing regions but also from the wide spectrum of styles and grape varieties. Many of them are modern and internationally oriented, some of them are consciously kept traditional. Exactly this came true again during the Greek Wine Award this year. The niveau of submitted wines has been ranked very high. The tasters were especially pleased about the creativity of many producers. „Long Live the accomplished individuality!“ concluded the head of tasting Martin Darting. „ We had an exciting tasting which partly recquired many debates. Due to a very wide professional team composition and incorruptness of the PAR system it was always provided that only professional arguments mattered for the assessment“. Beside two Top Gold medals 21 Gold and 32 Silver medals have been awarded this time.

The winners will be officially honoured during the forthcoming ProWein 2015 in Düsseldorf. This event takes place on Sunday, 15th of March 2015 at 12 noon on the booth of VINUM (hall 13/ D106).
