THE VINEYARD
Our Syrah is grown organically certified on a mountain ridge in the south part of the AOC Wine –region of Naussa. It encompasses 1,4 ha of property located on a south east facing slope overlooking the plains of Veria with historical sites including the birth place of Alexander the Great. The Location favours biodynamic farming without compromises to quality, through cold winters and cool summer nights, very dry air and an nearly insect free altitude.
THE VINTAGE
The year 2012 was particularly dry and hot in Northern Greece so the grapes were harvested in the last days of August. The grapes were kept without irrigation, which resulted in a very rich and balanced dark colored wine.
THE WINEMAKING
Harvesting was started in the night time. Thanks to the climatic conditions the grapes were of impeccable quality. After destemming followed a three day long cold maceration. Then the fermentation in closed stainless steel fermentation tanks at 24°C for ten days. The must is not pressed, only the wine naturally separating is thereafter were placed into new medium toasted oak casks for a ten month aging process in our underground cellars. Letting the wine achieve roundness and great depth. Prior to bottling , the wine is only scarcely filtrated in order to preserve its flavour and aromatic tructure and the incredible intense colour.
TONGUE, NOSE, EYES
This dry Greek wine has a dark purple to blackish red colour, leaving impressive red rivulets on the glass wall. Even though it is a wine that needs time to show its full potential, it has already developed fruity aromas such as blackberry and cherry complimented by a subtle hint of coconut, dark chocolate and coffee beans. The palate is intense but balanced and round, fruity, with a long finish.
